Job Description

  • Responsible for completing the full loan application process, including the preparation of documents, analysis of data and credit history, as well as collecting and reviewing required documentation for consumer loan products.

  • Get to know our member’s financial situations in order to suggest the best product or service that will meet their needs.Determine collateral needs and payment plans for members.

  • Promote credit union products to members and impact decisions to approve or deny loan applications.

  • Rejects loans by explaining deficiencies to applicants

  • Completes loan contracts by explaining provisions to applicant; obtaining signatures and notarizations; collecting fees.

  • Helps customers by answering questions; responding to requests.

  • Maintains customer confidence by keeping loan information confidential.

  • Responsible for maintaining the VISA and CUDL programs.

  • Also responsible for working directly/indirectly with auto dealerships and building/maintaining relationships with them to allow our programs to grow.

  • Works with others to manage the electronic title files to our collateral accounts.

  • Accomplishes credit union mission by completing related results as needed

Job Title:              Mortgage Underwriter

Department:      Lending

Job Summary:

Requirements include a thorough working knowledge of and ability to analyze credit reports, income documentation, assets, liabilities, property appraisals and title reports, to insure loans meet company standards and guidelines. Person will identify, analyze and balance transactional borrower and property related risks and offsets to arrive at a loan decision of approval, suspends, counter offer or denial. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

Evaluate

  • The borrower(s) income relative to financial obligations

  • The adequacy of the credit quality and borrower(s) qualifications

  • The security property

  • The source of funds

  • The loan terms, loan to value and ratios abiding to our guidelines

  • Run files through our Automatic Underwriting System (AUS)-if applicable

  • Review loan in our Loan Operation System(LOS) to ensure accuracy

  • Reviews and clears all conditions

  • Maintains current knowledge of all loan products and origination requirements

  • Ensures accuracy of loan disclosure and documentation

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mortgage underwriting experience

  • Excellent understanding of the secondary market guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, FHLB)

  • Effective analytical and mathematical skills

  • College degree preferred but not required strong understanding of mortgage process flow from origination to closing

  • Self-starter, self-reliant, dependable, ability to meet specific time constraints

  • Experience with AUS Loan Prospector and Desktop Underwriter

  • Experience with Private Mortgage Insurance
